Is soft feel fabric suitable for use on care home chairs?

This is a question that we have been getting asked more and more over the past few months as care homes are becoming more concerned with infection control but are wanting to make sure their homes look as inviting as possible to attract new residents. We all know that having fabric on a chair instead of faux leather vinyl makes a chair look much more comfortable and creates an atmosphere that is much more homely but, are they really safe for use in a care home?

The short answer is simply, yes they are!

All soft feel chair fabrics that are supplied from a care home furniture supplier are suitable for use in a care home. Unless otherwise specified these fabrics are fully waterproof and many of them even have anti-microbial properties to aid with infection control.

It is a well-known fact that soft feel fabrics aren’t as easy to clean as faux leather vinyl due to it not being a smooth surface, but these soft feel fabrics are wipe clean and with regular cleaning of the chair, you can keep the fabric looking as good as when you first brought it.

Can I still create a homely look without using soft feel fabrics?

If you are still not convinced about using soft feel fabrics on your care home chairs, then there are other ways we can go about making your chairs look as homely as possible.

Some ways this can be achieved are;

Have faux leather vinyl to the inside of your chair and a soft feel fabric to the outside so that the touchpoints of the chair are easy to clean.

Just have the seat cushion of the chair in faux leather vinyl and have the rest of the chair upholstered in a soft feel fabric.

Looking at faux leather vinyl that looks like a soft feel fabric such as Panaz Tweedy Vinyl
