What affects the price of care home bedroom cabinets?

Questions about cost and pricing are some of the most common questions that we get asked at Edison & Day, unfortunately, the answers aren’t always that simple. There are many different factors that affect the cost of bedroom cabinets, and these can range from something like the number of components in the cabinet to the length of time that that cabinet takes to machine and then assemble. Below, we outline a few of the factors that can affect the price of care home bedroom cabinets.

Quality of materials and components used

The main factor affecting the cost of bedroom cabinets is simply down to the quality of the materials and components used. There are many ways in which corners can be cut and less quality components can be used in a cabinet which therefore reduces the overall price of the unit. An example of this could be lower quality hinges and drawer runners or even having a thinner board on the back of the cabinets and in the drawer boxes to reduce the overall costs of the cabinet. This may seem insignificant but using thinner panels on cabinets will affect the overall stability and durability of the cabinet.

The manufacturing processes

The manufacturing processes can vary a lot between different cabinet ranges and even different manufactures. For example, if the cabinet door has a moulded shape or has details in the door this will take a lot longer to machine due to the details needing to be cut out whereas if it is a plain fronted door these are a lot quicker to manufacture and have less processes therefore making them cheaper.

However, this is not true in all cases. At Edison & Day, for example, we have a range of cabinets called Hadleigh (see picture above), this is one of our most expensive ranges but it has a plain fronted door, so why is this more expensive? One of the reasons this range is more expensive is that it uses a thicker board around the edge of the units to give it a unique look and to create a more residential feel to the room it is situated in.

Where the furniture is made

Another major factor that affects the cost of bedroom furniture across the UK is simply where the furniture is made. Whilst many care home suppliers now only sell UK manufactured products there is some that sell goods that are manufactured overseas in bulk and then shipped over. This tends to result in a much cheaper product for the end-user and a product that is of much lower quality as the supplier is unable to control any part of the production process.
