What are fabric bands?

Since creating our new website, we have been getting asked what are fabric bands more often as we now use this on our website to help customers estimate how much a chair / soft furnishings could cost.

Fabric bands are simply a way of grouping different fabrics together based on their cost per metre so that we can determine the price of a chair or soft furnishing items. This is a standard across many different industries and whilst the fabric band boundaries may differ from company to company the concept is still the same.

Fabric bands are typically graded from A – Z, with Band A being the cheapest option and Z being the most expensive however some companies may work with numbers with Band 1 being the cheapest for example.

How do fabric bands work on chairs?

This screenshot of our Cosette Sofa shows how the fabric bands affects the cost of the chair. The more expensive the fabric is, the higher the fabric band and therefore the higher the overall price is.

How do fabric bands work on soft furnishings?

On soft furnishings it works slightly different as you can’t generate a price until we know the dimensions of the curtains for example. So how it works on soft furnishings (on our website) is, down the left-hand side you can see the filter “Fabric Band” where there is bands A – E.

If you have two different fabrics that are both in Band A, and the curtain dimensions are the same with the same heading type etc., the price will be the same for both fabrics. If one of the fabrics is in Band B, that item will be more expensive.
